Taman Grain Terminal Complex (TGTC) has launched a project for extensive modernization of berthing facilities. The project will include dredging operations and construction of the second conveyor line, which will result in a 60% increase in the number of loaded or unloaded vessels at the terminal (from 125 to 200).
Currently, surveying is underway to dredge bed at berths No. 3, 4 to increase the maximum draft of vessels from 12.1 to 13.1 meters and the maximum load capacity at berth No. 3 from 65 to 110 thousand tons. The implementation of the project will allow to load vessels of various size, including New Panamax, and reduce costs of exporting companies.
The construction of the second conveyor line will increase the average speed of grain loading from 1 100 to 1 750 tons per hour. Moreover, a set of technical solutions will be introduced to protect the jetty from storms.
Sergey Gnatko, General Director of TGTC:
"Modernization of berthing facilities is only the forepart of the strategic plan for developing the terminal and improving our shipping capabilities. The second part of the strategic plan is the construction of railway infrastructure necessary to supply greater grain volumes from the central and Volga regions of Russia. These investment projects will increase the annual grain transshipment volumes at the terminal from the current 5.5 million to 8 million tons per year."
The concession agreement for the development of TGTC railway infrastructure was signed during the previous agricultural season. Its implementation is scheduled for the end of 2025. The berth modernization project planning will be fulfilled by then with construction expected to be completed by mid-2027.
