Novorossiysk Grain Terminal (NGT, a member of Demetra-Holding) acquired a special-purpose clean-up vessel, which is capable of cleaning the water surface from grain dust (husk) in an area of up to 34 square kilometers near the terminal berths within two hours.
The acquisition of a special-purpose floating craft is part of NGT's environmental policy and is aimed at protecting the Black Sea ecosystem. The existing technologies for loading grain onto vessels do not completely avoid dust production, so it is collected from the water surface using a clean-up vessel. Special-purpose equipment picks up the polluted water into the side cavities, filters it and gets it back purified.
Previously, clean-up operations near NGT berths were carried out by a contractor. With its own vessel NGT will cut costs and improve the quality of cleaning by doing it more often – directly in the course of bulk loading.
The vessel is currently in the process of registration and will commence operations after repairs and upgrade in early 2025.
Vladislav Zhukov, Managing Director of Novorossiysk Grain Terminal:
“We highly appreciate the efforts of the Azov-Black Sea basin branch of Rosmorport and management of Demetra-Holding to support the project. Its implementation will help us pursue our policy of corporate social responsibility, which also includes compliance with the highest environmental standards. We care not only about the current business success, but the legacy of environmental safety we'll leave for future generations.”
