Novorossiysk Grain Terminal (NGT, member of Demetra-Holding) completed the main stage of the national project "Labor Efficiency", which commenced in October 2023. We re-engineered the grain acceptance process at the railway in part of reallocation of unloading operations and elimination of losses during the process.
As a result, grain unloading time at the railway decreased by 15%. These improvements allowed for unloading grain from 13.5 thousand railcars in the first quarter of 2024, which is 10% more than during the same period last year.
At the next stages of the national project, lean manufacturing experience will be applied to other business processes at the terminal. Based on recommendations of the Federal Competence Center, further labor efficiency growth should be at least 5% per year.
Vladislav Zhukov, Managing Director of NGT:
"We have already increased efficiency of automobile grain acceptance operations, and now it is time to improve the railway shipment process. The Federal Competence Center experts assisted in introduction of the best lean manufacturing practices, which are already effective in other companies, including agricultural businesses.
As a result of our work, the terminal managed to reach new heights of transshipment. I believe that nothing but synergy of such projects aimed at improving business process efficiency with investment growth projects provides viable opportunities for business development."
