Smartseeds was among the top three Russian largest digital freight forwarders in 2024

Smartseeds online logistics platform (a member of Demetra-Holding) was among the top three Russian largest digital freight forwarders in 2024, according to Kept* research (ex-KPMG).

Over 3.4 million tons of grain were transported using the platform in 2024, which is up 40% and 2.5 million tons from last year and an all-time high for the company. Smartseeds also held its unreserved leadership in grain transportation to deep water ports of Novorossiysk.

Despite the general decline in the cargo transportation market, the number of accredited drivers on the platform increased to 18 000. Smartseeds operations expanded to 28 Russian regions and covered the Southern Trans-Urals (Kurgan region), Ulyanovsk region and the Chuvash Republic.

The service of providing vehicles for the transportation of crops along the “field-to-barnyard” route (transportation of cargo from the field to temporary storage facilities) has proven its demand: the transportation volumes increased threefold in 2024 compared to last year. The range of transported crops also expanded covering not only wheat, but sunflower and beetroot. Moreover, the key events in the life of the company included the launch of an auto terminal with a lab near Novorossiysk.

Anton Kondratov, Director of Smartseeds:

“The past year was a landmark for Smartseeds: we managed to seal our leadership in online logistics for agriculture, and our results are comparable to those of the largest players in the Russian online automobile transportation market. This is supported by the company’s internal analytics and market research. In addition to all-time highs, we have achieved outstanding results in digitalization in a fairly conservative segment of cargo carriers. We see that more and more drivers have started using our mobile app. In 2025, we will continue to strengthen our market position and introduce new functionality that will make using Smartseeds app more convenient and expedient for all parties.”

Around 9 million tons of agricultural cargo have been transported using the platform since its launch. The top five regions by transportation volumes include Krasnodar region, Rostov region, Stavropol region, Voronezh region and Volgograd region.

The online platform helps to find efficient transportation means, arrange transportation as well as contributes to whitening the market. Adhering closely to the Agricultural Charter, Smartseeds improves the transparency and security of logistics.

* The online automobile transportation market reached RUB 183 billion in 2024, according to Kept. The research identifies two main market segments: digital freight forwarding and TMSs (transportation management systems). The digital freight forwarding segment, with Smartseeds being among the top three, accounts for RUB 71 billion with 95% shared between the five largest market players.
