Grain export by rail in July-March 2025/26 is approaching its all-time high of 19.23 mln tons (the maximum in 2023/24 was 19.41 mln tons), up 5 mln tons from the same period last year (+35%). These data were reported by Rusagrotrans Analytical Center at the international conference "GrainLogistics 2026."
Such performance became a result of record-breaking shipments by rail since September 2025, including 86% or 16.6 mln tons of wheat.
The grain rail export forecast for the 2025/26 season approximates 23.2 mln tons. Currently, 83% of the potential has been exported by rail. The balances for April-June are estimated at 4 mln tons.
Rail shipments prevail in grain exports with 40%, which is typical for the 2025/26 season. Rail shipments reached 50% in overall grain shipments, and 52-56% in wheat exports in December-February, which is above the average for the past five years, including 33% for grain and 36% for wheat.
The main reason is the changes in the structure of grain production by region, which resulted in an increase in rail shipments from the Volga, Central, and Siberian regions and a significant decline in road shipments from the South, including amid a significant growth of road tariffs.
